LOCATION & GETTING AROUND

Casa Ensenada

Our home is conveniently located mid-island on the Caribbean side, just off the main road behind Pizza Mike's restaurant. Our home is cozy and secluded from the downtown crowds, while at the same time having plentiful services within walking distance. Mango Café, Rosa Sirena and Caribbean Brisas are all popular restaurants within a block of the house. There is a small grocery store, Mini Super Ronco, and Iron Abs Gym at the bottom of our driveway, as well as multiple local eateries & local brewery, Isla Brewing, within a 2 minute walk. The most beautiful Catholic Church on the island, La Capilla de Guadalupe (The Guadalupe Chapel), is within one block from the house, where you can attend a service or just stop by for a stunning view overlooking the ocean.

Local Experience

Staying mid-island allows you to experience the island like a member of the local community, exploring the back roads and finding the best local cuisine hidden from the crowds. You'll be situated right in the middle, being able to enjoy the serenity of the outskirts of El Centro (Downtown) and Punta Sur.

Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, Mexico

Isla Mujeres is a Caribbean Island located just 9 miles off the coast of Cancun, Mexico on the southern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is a vacation destination for foreign visitors and nationals alike, known for it’s sandy white beaches and calm & crystal clear water. Casa Ensenada is a quick golf cart or taxi ride north into town and the ferry or a 10-minute ride south to the stunning views of the cliffs of Punta Sur (South Point). Punta Sur is the eastern most point of Mexico, making it the first part of the country to see the sunrise over the glistening bright blue water. Downtown you will find the public beaches Playa Centro and Playa Norte (North Beach). Playa Norte is the #1 Best Beach in Mexico and for 5 consecutive years has landed itself In the Top 25 Best Beaches in the World, coming in at #17, according to "Trip Advisor's 2021 Travelers' Choice Awards." In El Centro (Downtown) you can explore Hidalgo, the pedestrian only street where there are ample restaurants, artisan shops, bars and more!

Golf cart

We recommend renting a golf cart for the duration or a part of the time that you are on the island, which we can help book for you with a rental company and have delivered to the home. Golf carts allow you the freedom to explore the island at your own convenience, and you will notice upon arrival they are the common mode of transportation for visitors. We have free parking on the premises.

Regular-size golf carts (two seats forward, two back) for four adults, start around $1,300 pesos (~$70 USD) for 24 hours. Rates subject to change.

Please note, Isla Mujeres has a zero tolerance drinking and driving law that is enforced by police checkpoints. If you rent a cart, do not drink and drive. We would be happy to order taxis to the home for you. Signs are posted where this is no parking on island.

Taxis

Taxis are an affordable form of transportation, costing only about $80 pesos (~$4 USD), per cab not per person, from the house to downtown and to the ferry. They are plentiful within a one minute walk from the house to hail on the street or your concierge can arrange to have taxis pick you up at the front door.

There is a taxi stand located on the immediate right hand side of the Ultramar Ferry Port downtown, most restaurants would be happy to call a taxi for you, or you may hail cabs easily from the street anywhere on the island. Current local taxi rates are posted at the stand downtown. You may always ask & agree to a price with your driver before getting into the cab.

bicycles

Free of charge, we have four adult bicycles, and one children's bicycle at the home for your use. We have helmets, 4 bike locks & a bike pump. At just approximately 7 km (4.3 mi) long and 1/2 km (0.4 mi) wide, this is a practical, fun way to explore the island.

PUBLIC BUS

Isla Mujeres has a public bus system with four local routes. There is a bus stop as you exit the Ferry downtown and turn right. Any bus around the island can be hailed like a cab; put your arm out to signal to the bus driver you'd like to board. Route numbers are displayed with LED lights in the upper left corner of the bus. Current tourist rates (per person) are $38 MXN  for one ride ($2 USD), or $175 MXN for a day pass ($9 USD). See up to date pricing on Isleños Bus Facebook Page.
